Controversy

  • In 2016, While promoting his film Madari, Irrfan had questioned the true spirit of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.”We have forgotten the real meaning of rituals. We have made them a tamasha (mockery). Qurbani means sacrificing something close to your heart and sharing it with others,” he said at an event in Jaipur.
  • In an interview, the actor said that rather than fasting, people should self-introspect. He also went on to say that animals are being slaughtered in the name of Qurbani. Elaborating further, Irrfan said that Qurbani is to sacrifice something close to you instead of a sheep or goat.

Irrfan Khan passed away at the age of 53 on April 28, 2020. he was suffering from a neuroendocrine tumor – a rare form of cancer. He was admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on 28 April 2020, where he started receiving treatment for a colon infection. He died the following day from the infection. His mother Saeeda Begum, aged 93, had died just four days prior in Jaipur.
