Given Dhaakad’s flop business, it was removed from single screens and multiplexes just two days after its release. It was built on a budget of around 100 crores.
After the flop, many shows of the film were canceled
According to the reports of Bollywood Hungama, many shows of this film have been canceled after the poor performance of ‘Dhaakad’ at the box office. In such a situation, now the makers of the film have to struggle a lot even to get a place on OTT. The OTT and Satellite rights of any movie are sold before the movie’s release. Producers get good profits from the earnings after selling the rights to a channel or OTT platform. But nothing like this has happened in the case of ‘Dhaakad’.
According to sources, the makers did not sell the rights of ‘Dhaakad’ before the release of the film thinking that they might get a good deal from any major OTT platform. This was the reason that even at the beginning of the film, the makers did not give any information about the OTT and satellite deal. Whereas, nowadays every film is informed about its streaming partner even before its release. Revealing the same, a source informed Bollywood Hungama, “Usually, these rights are sold before the release. The revenue earned by selling the film to a streaming giant and television channel often helps the producers to make a profit. In the case of Dhaakad, the makers had not sold the rights before releasing in the hope of a better deal. That’s why there was no mention of the OTT and the satellite partner in the opening slate of the film, as is the norm nowadays”
After the theatrical failure, looks like the makers have to bear losses in the OTT and satellite deals as well.
